Working, Coloring Eggs, Baking Cookies & a Fire= Good Times

Thursday night we went to Gramps & Doos for the evening. Tucker loved working with Gramps while I took Rylee to gymnastics. When we got back and ate supper we colored 3 1/2 dozen eggs, baked Resurrection Cookies and told Easter story, and sat by the fire.

First, the kids took wooden spoons and beat the nuts. This represented the beatings our Savior took. After I explained this to the kids they were both so heart broken.

Rylee is tasting salt. This represented all the tears that people cried for Jesus.

Next, they smelled vinegar. I explained to the kids as Jesus was hanging on the cross dying, he asked for a drink of water and this is what they gave him. Once again they were very upset that people were treating their Jesus this way.

We added sugar, beat it and explained to them that white means clean and when you ask Jesus into your heart he washes you clean.

Last, we placed the cookies in the oven(tomb) and the kids taped the oven(tomb) shut. We had to leave our cookies in there overnight and I told them how sad Mary and all the people were to leave Jesus sealed in that tomb. The next morning we broke open the cookies and they were hollow (empty) just as the tomb was 3 days after his burial. My kids have heard the Easter story over and over, but I truly feel like this brought it to life for them. They have told everybody about their Easter cookies.
